Fast healthy food delivery
North America has become a fast food nation!
You don’t believe me? Well what’s the first thing you do when you don’t feel like cooking? You pick up the telephone and order pizza, Chinese food – or if you’re on a special diet maybe you opt for deli delivery. Many of us don’t have time to pack a nutritional lunch for the day either, so ordering food delivered to your office is becoming standard too – just look at all the take out menus around your office to get an idea of how many folks order food in on a daily basis. Plus, when your only other option is the vending machine – who can blame anyone for having a hot meal delivered?
Just remember though, there are options other than fast food on your delivery menu. Try an exotic choice – like Thai, Indian, or Mexican– or a nutritional option like a deli sandwich. Delivery doesn’t just consist of burgers and fries or pizza and wings.
More and more delivery services are being pressured to offer at least a few nutritional options on their menus – think of deli fresh sandwiches, salads and whole wheat crust on your pizza. There’s nothing wrong with ordering fast food every once in a while – but moderation is key if you’re trying to maintain good health and a slim waistline. If you don’t have time to cook dinner every night and want to order food for delivery, try one of the following options:
- Order a thin crust veggie pizza with whole wheat crust – add your own lean grilled chicken to it and make a big salad for a side.
- Opt for a whole wheat wrap – instead of your typical meatball sub – and top it with lean deli meats, fresh veggies and a lighter sauce like mustard, salsa or raspberry vinaigrette.
- Try an exotic dish – like a veggie Thai specialty. Thai food is traditionally made with steamed veggies, fresh sauces and light vermicelli noodles or jasmine rice. It’s better than pizza any day.
- When the food arrives, make a rule to turn off the television and video games and sit at the table as a family. We model behaviors every day that our children can’t help but take to their futures.
