Pizza & Wings
It’s amore at your front door
When you suggest food delivery to your family they will almost always think of pizza!
The za is the most popular type of food delivery in North America. After all, pizza and wings fit easily into the menu for any football revelry, teenage get-together or kid’s birthday party. They are something that almost no one is turned off by, and it’s easy. However, if you’re on a special diet, good luck!
It’s almost impossible to order a pizza pie to your house that isn’t dripping with trans fats and cholesterol. Here are some statistics that might make you think twice before picking up the telephone to order traditional pizza and wings for your family:
·Domino’s pizza will be happy to deliver one of their famous Hand-Tossed Cheese pies to your front door, but are you aware that 2 slices equal roughly 1000 calories?
·Are you a Pizza Hut fan? Even if you opt for their Veggie Lover’s Pizza because you think you’re doing your waistline a favor – 2 pieces still add up to approximately 1100 whopping calories – that’s ¾ of the average prescribed daily caloric intake for most women.
·Do you look to Papa John for your za? Think again, 2 slices of their original Garden Special weighs in at about 1120 calories – yikes!
If your family demands a pizza and wing delivery night, do yourself a favor and instate the following “lighter” rules:
·Ask for your pie with half the cheese. Or ask them to remove the mozzarella altogether and go for a pizza topped with a lighter cheese like goat’s milk feta.
·Request a pizza with lots of veggies. Or when your pie arrives at your front door add a pile of your own fresh veggies (even better). Add colorful choices like red and green peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, onions and zucchini. You can even throw some fruits on there – pineapple and mango make for a sweet and zesty pizza pie!
·Request that your pizza be made with thin crust – this will cut the calories and carbs considerably, which is especially important if you’re on a low-carb diet
·Ask your favorite pizza delivery service to make your pizza with whole wheat crust instead of the usual crust made of white flour. The goodness of whole wheat will add some nutrients to your pie – and the kids will hardly notice the difference after it’s topped with zesty tomato sauce.
